The Mark V Carbon Compact is Weatherby's lightweight backcountry rifle, mating the famously strong nine-lug Mark V action to a carbon-fiber-wrapped barrel and a carbon-fiber stock. This one runs a 22-inch barrel in .243 Winchester with a gray finish. The .243 is one of the great dual-purpose cartridges, flat and fast enough for coyotes and varmints yet fully capable on deer and antelope with heavier bullets, and it recoils lightly enough that shooters of any size can handle it well. The Mark V's short 54-degree bolt lift keeps the handle clear of a scope.
