The Springfield Armory XD Service Model is a striker-fired 9mm with a 4-inch barrel and a set of passive safeties that set it apart from most of the class — a grip safety in addition to the trigger safety, plus a loaded chamber indicator and a striker status indicator. Shooters who came up on 1911s tend to appreciate the grip safety, and the XD's high, close grip angle points naturally for many hands.
