Bushnell's AR Optics 1-6x24 with the illuminated BTR-1 reticle is a low-power variable built for modern sporting rifles. The 1x setting gives a true both-eyes-open red dot experience for close work, while six power is enough magnification to identify and hit targets well past four hundred yards.

The LPVO has largely replaced the fixed prism optic on general-purpose carbines for exactly this reason, and Bushnell's AR Optics line brought the concept into reach for shooters who were not going to spend more on glass than on the rifle. The BTR-1 reticle includes holdover marks referenced to common 5.56 loads, and the illuminated center dot helps in low light.
